Restorative dentistry involves the restoration of natural teeth that have been damaged, decayed, or lost. Omaha’s Restorative Dentist, Dr. T.J. Bolamperti, offers many different procedures to restoring teeth and he is here to help you choose the proper variety of restorative dentistry that will get your smile back to its former beauty and function.
Dental Fillings from Omaha’s Restorative Dentist
Dental fillings are probably the most common solution to fix damaged parts of individual teeth. Typical dental fillings are either amalgam (silver colored) or composite (tooth colored). Your decision about which dental filling depends on a variety of factors:
- Amalgam fillings are more obvious at first glance, due to their silver hue. Amalgam fillings will often be used for fillings in places where there is tooth-on-tooth contact, such as the inside of a molar.
- Composite fillings are more likely to wear down and discolor over time and are more often used for facial fillings (fillings in the part of the tooth that face outward).
According to the ADA (American Dental Association), amalgam fillings are composed of a mixture of copper, tin, mercury and silver, all of which combine to form a strong and stable filling material. It is easy to use, durable, highly resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive when compared with other materials.
The ADA states that composite fillings are a mixture of finely ground glass-like particles and acrylic resin, which produces a tooth-colored restoration. They provide resistance to fracturing and durability, which helps to withstand moderate chewing pressures.
Crowns from Omaha’s Restorative Dentist
Another procedure included under the umbrella term of restorative dentistry is that of crafting and placing crowns over damaged teeth.
Crowns are made to cover the remaining tooth structure after a tooth has been damaged and often after a root canal. They can be made of porcelain, gold, non-precious metals or porcelain fused to metal. Prior to placing a crown, the tooth is modified and shaped so that the crown can fit into place and allow the patient to bite into a natural position.
Bridges from Omaha’s Restorative Dentist
When someone has lost a series of teeth due to an accident or simple decay and they have been replaced by a strip of artificially crafted teeth, a bridge is created. Bridges require careful measurements by Dr. Ted, because their dimensions directly correlate to their reliability as a dental fixture. If the teeth surrounding the artificial teeth are not of sufficient surface area to put a decent amount of pressure on the bridge, the bridge will wiggle and feel uncomfortable in your mouth.
Dr. T.J. Bolamperti, Omaha’s restorative dentist will take this task very seriously, as a poorly placed bridge can mean more dental work for you in the future. Dr. Ted is also trained in the placement of the popular dental implant that can anchor a bridge or a replacement tooth in place.
Dental Implants by Omaha’s Restorative Dentist
Dental implants are used to replace a single tooth, many teeth on one side, or used to support an entire fixed or removable bridge or denture, replacing all the upper or lower teeth for our clients in Omaha. This dental implant is placed into your lower or upper jaw. Depending on the number of teeth being replaced, one or more dental implants are placed in the bone.
Dental Implants are useful for our Omaha-area patients that have tried but can’t wear conventional dentures. If you have lost a tooth, have two teeth with small fillings or nothing adjacent to the hole and don’t want to cut the teeth down to make a bridge, you will make a good candidate. In either case, it is important for our patients to commit to good oral hygiene. So, make sure to keep the implanted areas healthy, by brushing and flossing daily. Be sure to ask Dr. T.J. Bolamperti if dental implants are right for you.
